ABOUT

At a Social Innovation and Learning Village in June this year approximately 60 people from five countries came together to explore some of the social issues affecting their communities.  From these discussions, participants developed small prototyping projects to address these issues.

Approximately 20 projects were explored, ranging in topics from homelessness, food security, justice and personal responsibility for change. On the fourth day participants were invited to pitch an idea with the opportunity to gain seed funding for of $5000 sponsored by UnitingCare Community.

The best project, chosen by an independent panel was pitched by Amelia and Bryony.

Their project has become the Transport2Court Initiative and aims to prevent economic barriers to court attendance. Their project provides a transport voucher scheme for vulnerable people who are required to attend court but who may not have the means to get there.

The Transport2Court Initiative is a small prototyping project, which may potentially be the first step in in a broader exploration of the issues facing vulnerable people in court attendance.

-UPDATE-

Unfortunately we have no more GoCards to offer at this time.

Amelia

“I hold an anthropology degree and currently doing a PhD in legal anthropology at the University of Queensland.  I am interested in how communities can have a positive influence on vulnerable defendants and their involvement in Australia's legal system."

Bryony

“I hold law and psychology degrees and have worked in the community sector for the last six years. I am interested in where the rubber hits the road and what policy looks like by the time it is affecting people’s lives.”
